setting up class reunion account

I would like to set up a account to collect payments for a class reunion. I already set up a separate email address use only for the reunion. We would accept credit cards or money from bank account.   I have read some faqs but not comfortable i understand all the answers.

1. What should i use for my first and last name?  my real name or a name related to the reunion?  i.e John Doe or RHS Classof80Reunion?

2. Would there be a per transaction cost to the new account every time someone sends a payment?  If so, how much?

3. To keep track of who paid, how will I know who paid?  Will their name appear?

4. Do I need to or should I link a bank account immediately or is it only necessary when we need to transfer the money collected to the bank account? Is there a charge to transfer money from PayPal to the bank?

5. Can their be more than one owner for the account or is it all based on the email name and password when created?

6. What are the choices people have to send money?  Is it credit card, and bank account?

Anything else you feel I should now would be greatly appreciated.  I dont want confusion for anyone.

Thanks.

You are only allowed to have 2 paypal accounts if x1 is personal and the other x1 is business. If you have 2 of the same kind then you risk both being limited.

If you are not a registered business then you have to open a personal account IN YOUR OWN NAME.

You can't set up a paypal account to receive money in an anonymous name............why don't you just use the 'money pool' in your own personal paypal account? You can have up to 8 email addresses on x1 paypal account.

So i saw the advice on the money pool.  Im trying it. I'm not sure it works as i wanted.  I set up a personal account in my name with my email.  I then signed up for a 2nd account with the reunion email where i want the money to go.  The 2nd email account for the reunion doesnt seem to have have the option for a money pool unless i cant find it.  i really want his to be a separate pool from my personal email

If this is a one time deal and you're in charge and you already have a Personal PayPal Account, you could use your account to manage the event funds.  Note, any type of PayPal Account requires a real name for the account owner, this applies to businesses, corporations, etc.

1. Yes, you have to use your real name.  Note, Personal Accounts do reveal your name and email address, Business Accounts reveal only your business or organizations name and business email address (unless your business name is your real name).

2. Yes, there is transaction processing fee applied to the total amount of each transaction. The standard fee is 2.9% + $.30 which is deducted from the total amount and the remaining balance is deposited into your PayPal Account Balance.

3. Yes, you will have both the name and email address of the person who paid - this info will appear in the transaction details which will show in your account Activity section.

4. It's best to link and confirm both a bank account and credit card - yes, you can receive funds without doing so but, you may experience holds on receiving the money (from a day up to possibly 21 days) and you will have limits on both sending and withdrawing funds.  As for withdrawing funds, if no bank account, you would need to request a paper check - there's a non-refundable fee for processing the check ($1.50), has to sent in the mail, has to go to a physical street address (no PO Boxes) and it can take up to 2 weeks to get.  If you have a bank account linked, you can withdraw anytime and there's no fees.

5. There can only be 1 owner of the account regardless of the type.  If you have a Business Account, you can add additional users and grant specific permissions to those users.

6. As for options for people to send you money -
* If the sender has a PayPal Account, all they need is your account email address to send you funds.  Fees may apply depending on the option chosen (like Goods and Services) or the funding source the sender uses (like a credit card).
* If you are using a Personal Account, you can send an invoice, you can send an email link with a Buy Now URL, you can setup a web page with a Buy Now button or Add to Cart whereas the people can pay.  You can also set up a PayPal.ME link and share that with your group, using this method, the senders would be required to have a PayPal Account.  For these options the people will have the option to Pay as Guest with a credit card or open or use their PayPal Account. For and of these options, you would be charged the standard transaction processing fee.  You can do similar actions with a Business Account plus there's also the PayPal Here option.   Last, PayPal has a product called Money Pool - something to also look into.

Personally, setting up a web page with a Buy Now item button would work fine - this way you one place to go for all, no need to send out 50 emails or offer multiple options. Everyone goes to the same place, completes the checkout where they can pay as a guest or their PayPal Account.  You get the money and info you need - it's really straight forward.

Hope that answers some of your questions.

You would NOT pay any fees if you are not selling anything.

If you use a 'money pool' or paypal.me friends / family option OR they pay you via friends / family using their bank account and not a card then there is no fees.

You should not be charged a fee if you are not selling.

Did you read the bit where we told you that you are not allowed to have 2 paypal accounts unless 1 is personal and 1 is business?

So you have now set up 2 personal paypal accounts and risk both being limited.

Why not delete the new one, keep your original personal account and use the money pool option?
