Can I use four different prepaid credit cards for the Pay In 4 payment method?

Hello, all! I had a question regarding the Pay in 4 payment method and was hoping to please get some help.

Is it possible to use separate prepaid credit cards for the 4 payments? I wish to use a prepaid credit card for a purchase, however, the prepaid credit cards that I have access to do not have a maximum balance high enough to pay for this particular purchase in just one payment. I would have to get four different prepaid credit cards of $500 to add up to the amount needed of a little under $2000.

Hi @Temp20220926A,

Welcome to the community and thank you for your post!

I do understand your query. This won't be an option for you I'm afraid. I do understand your concern with this. When you attempt to make a Pay in 4 payment, the full amount can be temporarily charged to your bank/card.

This is an authorization charge. This is to ensure you have the balance avilable. This charge would be released within 72 hours.

If the card you are using does not hold a nigh enough balance, the transaction may be declined. I would suggest using an alternative card if you want to apply for Pay in 4.

For further details, please click here.

I hope this helps!

I'm now a bit confused because I have gotten mixed information regarding this. At the same time that I posted my original comment, I sent a message to Paypal directly (to get confirmation from two different sources).

This was their reply...

"Thank you for reaching the Pay Later team regarding the Pay in 4 and you would like to know more about what kind of credit cards that can be used for a Pay in 4.

If you have multiple credit cards and would like to use them for making payments for the Pay in 4.

You may use as many cards as long as the system will allow this to be used for a Pay in 4 and make sure this is all confirmed.

Make sure to change the payment method before making payments as this could be taken from a card that has no funds.
If you want to make future payments with a new funding instrument, you can change your payment method by logging into your PayPal account, going to Pay in 4 and selecting the Pay in 3 plan you want to change. There, you can click Change under “Payment Method” to update your information or choose a new way to pay."

Since it is a large purchase, I just want to be sure of any restrictions before I invest in any prepaid credit cards.
