PayPal in 3 Pending - Money Has Been Taken From Bank Account

I used Paypal in 3 to make a purchase on the Argos website.  The Paypal in 3 transaction seemed to be 'approved' by Paypal and the 1st instalment was taken.  However, no Order Confirmation was generated when taken back to the Argos checkout page.  So, I stupidly went through the Pay in 3 procss again, and again, was 'approved' and another instalment taken from my back account, but yet again, no order confirmation was generated, and the item I am wanting to purchase is still in my basket.  Paypal has the status as 'Pending',  on both the instalments, but i don't understand if they are pending, how come the money has been taken from my account ?

 

Thanks for any help/guidance on how I proceed with this

What happens is that the funds at your bank is put on hold (earmarked) for the purchases but not transferred over to the merchant yet since it appears that transactions didn’t go through properly. Those holds will eventually expire and drop off within a few days or ask PayPal customer services to void them for you since you’re basically paying PayPal, not the merchant directly in cases of Pay in 3 purchases.

These two transactions are now at 'Authorisation' status in Paypal.  The item I was looking to purchase is still in the retailer's checkout, but I assume the order is never going to be completed now, as the retailer's basket will time out, and if Paypal attempt to send an authorisation code/payment  to the retailer now, some some 12+ hours after the initial Paypal In 3 request. there will be no basket for Argos to apply it to.

 

What are the other statuses that can be marked on these transactions apart from Pending and Authorisation ?

Hi,

Just to say, this has now been resolved. 

 

The transactions were removed/cancelled after a few hours, and the money 'returned' to my bank account.

I was able to successfully complete my Paypal in 3 transaction, the next day.
