Pay in 4 saying 'incorrect billing address' even if correct on bank statement and PayPal account

Hi there,

  • Issue applies to PAY IN 4 option only
  • Pay in 4 plan gets approved, but fails as system claims it can't 'find billing address'
  • Billing address for card MATCHES credit card statement address
  • Payin4 doesn't SAVE address, rather transaction fails.
  • You can only pay in full, but that's not the desired outcome.
  • This has gone on for TWO WEEKS. Still no resolution.
  • PayPal say 'engineers are working on it'.. Two weeks? whoah!

Pay in 4 eligibility will vary by merchant and individual shopping experience. The Pay in 4 checkout option will be displayed if the option is available for the specific merchant as well as the transaction amount and type. Keep in mind, not all goods and services are eligible. If for some reason the items in your cart are not eligible for Pay in 4, the offer will not be available. Thanks for your reply, but let me get a few things straight here:

  • I have called PayPal service twice, both times my account and everything else has checked out fine
  • My credit rating is perfect! PayPal would have cancelled my account of the ability to use the service
  • As I stated, I was told 'engineerers are working on it.
  • I came here to get a solution!
  • The fact that other people are having the same issue tell us that according to ITIL we have a PROBLEM, not just an isolated incident!!
  • PAYPAL has done NOTHING to accept responsibility for the PROBLEM.
  • Your answer is NOT ADDRESSING THE PROBLEM!!!!
  • Fix the problem!!!

I was having the same problems as you. Have used Pay in 4 since its introduction for many purchases.  Have never been late with a payment.  Have a perfect buyer/ seller record, credit rating record.   After 3+ weeks of it not working and constant reassurances by Paypal agents that it was being fixed and I was one of a small number of accounts suffering the same issue, it still was a problem.  I ended up writing to Paypal escalations and asking if they intended to fix the problem and if not, could they remove the pay in 4 option from my account.  They have since removed the option (in the last couple of days), so I guess that means they have no intention of fixing the problem.  Thankfully, I have never had any issues like this with Afterpay.

That does not sound promising, three year is a long time how frustrating. I use Afterpay to I refuse to pay for anything with my PayPal account now I’m so annoyed at them. They obviously don’t need my business.

Same exact problem as OP. 

I am using the exact same platform as always (Ebay) and have made no changes to any addresses or other information in my PayPay or Ebay accounts. 
The Pay in 4 is failing at the Billing Address section. exactly as described in OP. 
So this is definitely a Paypal issue - nothing to do with the user/merchant.

PayPal please investigate!

Nope this problem has not been resolved; I just tried with the pay in 4 and again got the 'incorrect billing address' notification even though my address is correct on my bank statement and on my PayPal account; so frustrating. I last used this pay in 4 in early November 2024 with no problem what-so-ever but then come 1 week later this problem arise. I have been using your service for donkey years via pay in 4 countless of times. I understand if it is just me experiencing this problem, it could be me at fault but so many other users experienced the same so please do not advise us that the problem lay with us. Come on PayPal get your act together, will ya! How can you offer such service to your users when you do not do your part by resolving this problem from your side? Please investigate and please resolve this matter at your earliest convenience. Thank you.

Exact same issue, 

have used my PayPal account for over ten years, no changes to address, email address, or bank cards address.

Reported to PayPal a month ago and still not resolved, no other explanation given other than they are aware. PayPal should inform customers legally regarding the data protection laws if there has been a data grab regarding customer accounts.
