Using PayPal for event registration fees

I'm creating a simple website to allow people to register for a private event. We need to collect the $50 registration fee from at most 200 people. Do I need to create a merchant account to do this? Is there a simpler way?

Do a money pool instead. People add funds to this pool for something.
