Hello,
I have a site that sells products using paypal's Buy Now button. After a buyer pays for the product in paypal, he is sent to the return page on my site where a download button downloads the product. I want the site to automatically send an automated email to the buyer's email on how to open/use the product using a password.
For security reasons I don't want the return page to explain to the buyer how to do this.
I have set up an autoresponder in my webmail eg. product at xyzcompany so that buyers should automatically get instructions once they purchase the product.
How do I link the above email with the paypal button so that communication to the buyer is automatic.
I know that in 'My Saved Buttons' link in the profile page, you can choose either Merchant ID or "Use Primary Email" where a drop down list lists all your registered emails. But I want to use only by secondary business email to receive payments and send notifications to the buyer.
Now my primary email is always set to my personal email which I need for certain transactions and don't want to reveal to buyers. But I want the buyer's payment details to be sent to my business email (product at xyzcompany) when products are sold. I don't want to keep changing my primary email back and forth whenever I make a personal transaction or when a buyer purchases.
So basically all I want is for my site to automatically send an email with instructions to the buyer when a purchase is made.
Thanks.

I am new to PayPal, about to launch a small online store for the first time (we've been in business 11 years, this will be our first bonafide eCommerce to our main audience) and I have the same question.
What I did was set up a unique email alias, orders@ my company, that will only be used for these PayPal orders, and then I have that aliased automatically sent to both our sales office and our billing office. I can either set up an autoresponse on our Server, or on the Billing office machine.
Another related question I have is about the format of the email that gets auto-generated by PayPal to the customer confirming receipt of their payment. I did a test order this week, and the email that came was loaded with extraneous HTML code that filled half the page; it looked terrible. Does anyone know if there's a setting to have these emails go out Text Only, so it doesn't have all that extraneous code? We've tried viewing in two different email clients and it looked bad on both--a half a page of code, followed by all the order information running together, very tough to read. Can this be modifed? When I go into the order I can print the Packing List to PDF and then email that to the customer--that looks fine. Any way to get the automated email that goes out, looking like that PDF?

Hi wishbone and LaurelK,
Welcome to the forums!
You both may have more luck with your questions at the PayPal Developer Forums. There are people there who have worked on solutions to problems like the ones you have described, who may have ideas for ways to address them.
I hope this helps!
Olivia
