Can people take money back out of my account after they paid???

My brother in law tells me NEVER to leave money in Paypal, because after someone pays me and receives their item...they can just 'reverse' their payment and take the money back, at any time, for any reason.  Is this true??? (I hope not)

kwyet1,

Welcome to the boards!

Totally untrue.  Just as whenever you have a garage sale, and someone pays by cash or check, the cash could be counterfeit or the check could bounce, the same scenario could conceivably occur with PayPal.  However, that's entirely different from the funds being taken away at any time, by any request of the buyer, for any reason.  While I understand why your brother would counsel you to remove the funds, ultimately, you could still be held liable to if a check bounces and your balance is zero.

However, that doesn't mean you should be afraid of using PayPal or even keeping money in  your acocunt.  As a unique payment processor, PayPal has a number of features to help keep you safe when selling online.  Not only do we have fraud specialists who review payments and accounts on a regular basis, but we have a Seller Protection Policy that can help you keep ownership of the funds should one of the above mentioned reversals occur.  Our advanced fraud detection technology works to help keep you safe around the clock!

You can check out the Seller Protection Policy here: https://www.paypal.com/sellerprotection

You can also see our tips on selling safely online here: https://www.paypal.com/securitycenter

Hope this helps,

Adrian

I hope that isn't true, I am trying to get answer's myself. As I shipped an item out yesterday from OH to IN and got on paypal last night, and for some reason there is a refund in process.. I really hate to think that I can lose my money and product at the same time.

Hi,

I don't know about your situation....but when I look at my Paypal acct.....often is says 'in process' .... 'issue refund'

I think what it is say to me is that the transaction is in process for some reason (like I printed a shipping label)

and I think the 'issue refund' part is if I decide to issue a refund for some reason.

If this is not what you are seeing in your account, could you please let me know....'cause then I'm gonna be worried again.

Thanks
