Feel like I have been scammed, what to do?

I am selling a laptop and I received an email from someone saying they want to purchase it for their son's birthday present. But I have to send it to Nigeria and they will pay more for the shipping cost. They sent a payment via echeck but nothing is showing up in my account as a pending transaction. I also have an email to send it within 48 hours. Another odd thing is the laptop is purple and the buyer said they are purchasing it for their son and he is working at an oil plant. Is this a scam I never used paypal before and I'm kind of cautious. What should I do? Should I close my paypal account?

jW23,

Welcome to the boards!

You should ignore these emails.  Forward them over to our fraud team atspoof@paypal.com.  There are two dead giveaways on these emails: grammar and a Nigerian shipping address (PayPal does not support Nigerian accounts at this time).

You can read more about selling safely online here in our Security Center here:https://www.paypal.com/securitycenter

This is also a great article on Wikipedia I recommend all individuals who use the internet read regarding these types of contacts (long but informative): http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Advance-fee_fraud

Hope this helps,

Adolfo
