Hello!
Ok i have ordered 20 x 500GB usb sticks from Dhgate. I checked on ebay and people were selling them and making good profits so i thought i shall have some of that. However, after telling a few people they were unsure that you could get USB flash drives at 500GB. Upon more investigation i found that you cannot. low and behold when the USB sticks arrived, they showed up as 500GB, however, when you transfer more than 8GB it crashes! i have a techy friend who run some tests, and a few programs show us that every single one can only actually hold 8GB, not the 500GB as advertised.
Anyway, i have opened a dispute on DHgate, the seller will refund me, but once i have paid the return costs. the return costs are around £35. I dont think i should pay the return costs, as the items sold were fake and i was mis-sold them?
Should i open a dispute in paypal?
Advice please

Might have been better to have researched this before buying the items, if a deal looks too good then it probably is.
I would open a dispute with paypal and escalate the dispute to a claim. You will probably still have to return the item at your own expense but at least the seller will have to refund if you go via paypal. Also there is a chance if the items were fake etc that paypal won't expect you to return them.
Advice is voluntary.
Kudos / Solution appreciated.

I too am a victim of DHGATE scam. I bought a Ipad that claimed to be real. When I received the item, it looked nothing like Ipad . I returned it and paid $26.70 for shipping fees. The package arrived and received by the seller but never refunded the money!! I tried to file claim on Paypal but paypal refused to offer refund. I am now staying away from Paypal since I have had bad experience doing Paypal transactions.
Paypal needs to actively involve with the customers feedback and better improve the online purchase.

That is EXACTLY what happened to my Ipad that I bought. I tried to ask the seller for clarification but received no response on why the product is fake . Instead he , the seller named Coolish said the product was not perfect when he first bought it. Why would he sell the product if the product he bought is fake. I paid USD $200 for a product that does not work...plus the returned shipping fees of USD $26.70..i ended up Zero return. Thanks to Paypal!!

Hi there Aik,
Just to note for future reference we won't ask you to return counterfeit items to a seller.
However, after you did this did you provide PayPal with a tracking number and also your proof of shipping receipt as this shows the exact location the item was sent back to?

That's all fine and dandy, the reason I am here is because I am holding 20x FAKE 256GB flash drives that I already knew not to send back because to do so is against International shipping laws as the items need to be held as evidence, however DHGATE simply deny paypal dispute then play back-and-forth with the politeness playing dumb at times and feigning sincere intertest at others until all time limits have expired, once they are to that point they release payment and either way they steal our money and I'm out nearly $300!

I can understand and relate your frustration.
I must admit Paypal is not helpful in this way. I tried to call and contacted Paypal several times, but Paypal insisted that I did not submit enough evidence of the package being returned successfully. I even tried to ask USPS for help but it was unsuccessful. Despite months of arguing back and forth but in vain, I finally gave up!
In the end, I lauched a final threat to DH Gate that I will make it public through Facebook that DHGate is scam and selling fake items, ( which I did), A few weeks later, I got a response saying DHgate agreed to issue a full refund, not to mention I spent $30 for shipping back to the seller.
I have encountered numerous ostacles with Paypal. Either way, I will NEVER order any more item from overseas trader. Stick to EBay!!!
