Seriously HELP on this issue...

I recently purchased a camera on Ebay for $90 and after paying was sent a message from the seller "Please send me a check for the money." I informed him that he was paid as it showed in my Paypal that the payment was confirmed. Didn't hear anything till I received the camera for 2 weeks. A week later I let him know about grain moving all over the screen making it hard to see and why this was happening, it started getting worse as I switched modes. After hours of trying to repair since sending it back would be a pain with work, I was able to finally fix the issue, he didn't reply for the next few days. I messaged the seller and assumed everything was fine, till I noticed he refunded me $90 on the 26th with the note, "Hi this is Rab i like to know w ere is my payment for camera $90.00 please let me know how i can get my mony thanks." What?? He had his money and refunded me (which makes me think he didn't read my message) but what confuses me is, why is he asking for money after he had access and full responsibility for the funds, but sent it back? I am confused and need someone's help with this as I am very annoyed and now as work has started have very limited time available to send these funds back, make sure they go through, deal with messaging him again and sitting on the phone with Paypal. Why would someone send money back when they know 1. They don't have the item and there is no request for return. 2. If you had the funds in your grip and the buyer stated they fixed the issue and didn't have time to return after the issue was dropped....would you send the money back asking for the funds again? Is this a joke?..Because I'm not laughing...

Sorry, it was over 10 days ago when he requested a check..after it was deducted from my account. I went back and checked the message dates. Aug 28th he sent me the message and I purchased it the 17th. Is he trying to scam me?

Hi LunaP23,

Thanks for posting!

This is a strange one indeed.

It's unusal that a Seller would issue you a refund without discussing the return of the problematic item.

Nevertheless, based on your message, I don't think you're under any obligation to return the item here. As this all happened outside of the PayPal claim process, we certainly won't be insisting on you returning the camera.

However, if you've received a refund and you're sure the money has been returned, you could always send the payment back to the Seller. He may have just made a simple mistake but it would be best to discuss this with him first before taking any action.

I hope that makes sense LunaP23 and please let us know if you need any further advice about this 🙂

Conor
