Donation taxes

let's say I have a youtube/twitch channel. If I receive donations on PayPal do I have to pay tax? Viewers don't get anything back from it, no alert on stream, nothing. So it's not taxed right?

Hello @TristanHale,

Welcome to our community help forum and thanks for posting!

I understand your concern about paying taxes for receiving donations. PayPal Giving Fund doesn't charge charities any fees for enrolling or receiving donations. There are no fees to receive money from friends or family. However, if you receive money for goods or services, there will be a fee for each transaction and also if you receive a payment from someone in another country.  For more information on fees, click Fees at the bottom of any PayPal page.

When you’re paid for goods and services, the IRS considers this reportable income and we’re required to send you tax form 1099-K when you receive $600 or more for goods and services in a year. You can learn more about how PayPal report sales to IRS here

I hope this information help you,

Bindu

And how do I pay it if I'm from Latvia? Can I do it in a local bank?

Hey @TristanHale,

There is no fee to open a PayPal account nor to download the PayPal mobile app. We charge fees for the following categories :

When you receive money from a purchase.
When you receive payments from outside your country or region.
When you send personal payments using card

The fees will be debited automatically from the payments you make or received in to your PayPal account. Please review our fees page for more information.

Regards,

Bindu
