67975 very odd

Howdy!
Just recently I have been getting sms messages, telling me that am getting a refund. It comes from the number '67975' as sender. The thing is, paypal know nothing about it, googling it shows the number as a scam, but... the sms messages I am getting correctly identifies the amount and at the right time I am getting a refund from a retailer for sending goods back. It's not all retailers, just a couple.
All my settings on paypal are set to email only, not sms btw. Anyone help? Paypal are suggesting the message comes from retailers, but that can't be true as the number they've been sent from are the same - 67975.

Strangeness and a little worrying - off to change my password now..!

Thanks

Make sure you turned off the “Send you text messages.” option on your phone number in Settings if you do not want SMSs and prefer email notifications. Any text alerts you previously selected to manage your account will stop.

Kudos & Solved are greatly appreciated. 🙂

Hello @blighty,

Welcome back to our community help forum and thanks for posting!

Thanks for the helps @sharpiemarker! I can see how receiving that messages would be concerning to you. If you receive any email/message about activity on a PayPal account, the safest way to confirm the email’s/message's validity is to log in to a PayPal account via the PayPal website (not using the links in the email/message received). Any of the activity reported in the email/message will be available to view. You can forward any suspicious emails/messages to Phishing@paypal.com and view this web page for more information on phishing emails/messages here

As @sharpiemarker you can also update the notification settings if you do not wish to receive text alerts from PayPal.

I hope this information helps,

Bindu
