Fake paypal email

Recently I accidentally tapped on a link from fake paypal email on my phone. The message said that someone from a different country had tried to login to my account and verify my account using a link it provided, the site said it couldnt be reached. Soon as I realized it was a scam I panicked and I shut down my old paypal and created a new one. I know not to click on random links but I was stupid and did it anyways. Should I be alright since I closed down my account immediately afterwards?

Hey @Rdavila3

Welcome to the PayPal Community and thank you for your post.

I am sorry to hear this has happened, I appreciate how concerning this must have been for you.

If you shared financial or personal information or entered personal information on a fake website:

  • Change your PayPal password and security questions immediately.
  • Contact your bank and credit or debit card issuer and let them know what happened.
  • Review your recent PayPal activity to make sure you authorized all the payments.
  • Report any unauthorized payments in the Resolution Center. Remember, you’re 100% protected against unauthorized payments sent from your account

As your account has been closed, from the above, I would just ensure you contact your bank to check no payments have been taken. I will leave some helpful links below regarding spoof emails. Please remember you can forward any suspicious or spoof emails to phishing@paypal.com, and you’ll receive an automatic email letting you know we received it.
