Getting security codes sent to SMS when I have not tried to log in. Has my password been hacked?

This morning, I was surprised to find a security code sent to my phone's texts, from "[removed]" and "[removed]".

Out of an ABUNDANCE of caution, I have changed my password, only to find the security questions haven't stopped.

I have to ask, do the security codes in my texts mean the hacker has already found out my password but is getting roadblocked by 2FA or do they mean the hacker is just probing?

Thank you ahead of time, the PayPal Assistant bot was absolutely useless.

Hello @Rabblerouser

Thanks for joining the PayPal Community!

I understand you recently received multiple security codes, and I'm sorry to hear about the concern this has caused. If you receive a security code, that typically means someone is trying to reset your password. However, there is a chance they learned your password, and our system is preventing unauthorized access by requiring the security code. Since you already changed your password, that leads me to believe they don't know your current password and are trying to reset it

I recommend running a virus and malware scan on your devices to ensure that's not how they're trying to access the account. To make sure you always receive a security code before logging into your account, I suggest activating 2-Step Verification. If you notice any unauthorized transactions on your account, you can report them by following the instructions on our Help Center here: How do I report an unauthorized transaction or account activity? Lastly, if the attempts do not stop, it may be beneficial to add a secondary email to your account and remove your primary for a few days. (If you're planning on receiving any payments to your primary email, you'll want to wait until you've received them or let the sender know you're changing your email.)

I hope this information helps!
