Gift Card Charges

I received a gift card but someone has already removed funds from it, 3 charges identified as PayPal METAPAY, 0000000[Removed. Phone #s not permitted] Anyway to identify who did this?  Can funds be recovered?

I'm in the same boat - I've contacted both the gift card servicer and paypal and neither can help. I'm currently taking it up with Facebook (metapay). Have you come to any resolution?
