Received scam email telling me I've received an estimate I never asked for.

Just received an email telling me that an estimate I never asked for has been sent. Usually you can tell scams by the websites used, but this one uses Paypal itself. In the 'customers notes' it said "Digital Currency Binance USD (BISD) purchase of $470. 00 was successful. If you have not done this and need the Refund Call us immediately at [Removed. Phone #s not permitted] which could be mistaken for a message from Paypal (although it says it's from Daniel Boyarsky in the email but it was easily missed at first).

I know it's a scam, I have no idea who this person is or what the estimate is for, I thought I'd just let others know it's out there in case it's new?

Here's an image of the actual estimate on the REAL Paypal site.

Sounds like a scam money request or invoice.

Scammers harvest email addresses and send out those requests hoping some email addresses are linked to paypal accounts and the unsuspecting recipient 'may' pay them not realising they are scams.

If there is a cancel option then cancel it, if not ignore it and hopefully it should time out at some point.

As long as you don't click to pay it then no money should be transferred.

Kudos / Solution appreciated.

I got this too, and what's more, it came from an [AT]paypal.com email address and linked me to the estimate on Paypal.com

I called the number listed for a info and I could tell something was up. Eventually got a callback from Alabama from someone who I don't think was from Alabama...

Hey @Luscious973, @whatadewitt & @MancVandaL

Welcome to the PayPal Community Forum!

I understand how concerning this can be. If you receive an email you are concerned about, I would advise logging into your account independently (not following any links in the suspicious email) to see if there is an issue with your account.

As you have mentioned, @Luscious973 there is no request or estimate on your PayPal account, this is a spoof email you received. I do appreciate how stressful this can be.

For more help on this, see: How do I know if an email is from PayPal and how do I report a spoof email? & How do I spot and report a fake PayPal email or website?

If you want to change your password, see: How do I change my password and security questions? (paypal.com) and I would always recommend activating 2-Step Verification, see: How do I turn on or off 2-step verification for PayPal account login?

I hope this helps. Have a nice day!

Rebecca
