Someone has linked my bank account to their paypal and taken over $4000

I have a savings account that I do not take money out of and don't make payments from or have linked to anything. I just noticed that a paypal account with the name Jan Elizabeth [removed] has linked to my bank account and has taken out 4 payments of $960. How is this possible with no need for verification or anything and how do I go about getting this money back. I'm going to contact my bank when they reopen to see what they can do, but will this just happen again?

It’s not unheard of and have seen some cases from time to time where people link banks/cards that aren’t theirs to their PayPal accounts. Like their husband/wife/parent/relative/gf or bf/friend’s account for innocuous purposes where the information on PayPal account and bank/card obviously doesn’t completely match. Surprised myself that it can be done to begin with and people actually do this without blinking an eyelash like there’s nothing wrong with it. If it worked in those cases, then I can’t see why it won’t work when it is actual fraud.

The curious bit is how your bank info got loose and ended up in this PayPal account since it wasn’t ever linked to your PayPal or anywhere. Scan your devices for malware.
