F&f payment option misused

Sadly I got scammed today attempt to purchase broadway show tickets. Seller insisted to use f/f and as the show time neared, without doing much research, I opted to use the payment option. It appears there are several of them are using this method to scam you. Why isn’t PayPal have a scammer blacklist to verify before approving the scammer’s new account and haunting for next victim??? How many more victims PayPal and sister company Venmo need to act on it and help protect the consumers??? My scammer's PayPal account is ‘KRBAKER07984 Gmail ’ or ‘freelomont Gmail ’ or ‘johnwick222022 outlook mail ’ They contact you with following numbe[Removed. Phone #s not permitted]o[Removed. Phone #s not permitted] PayPal flag them.

If they were not a friend or a family member why would you use that option?

A friends / family (or gift payment) is intended as a transfer of funds from family or friends to one another. For this reason, there is no processing fee when payment is made with bank or PayPal balance.
However as it is a gift payment, there is also no buyer protection as no goods or services should have been exchanged.

If he was not a close mate or family member you should never use that option as it enables the seller to evade paying his Paypal fees and negates your buyer protection at the same time.

You would also not be able to open a dispute (apart from one citing an unauthorised transaction), which would be automatically closed as you did authorise the initial payment.

Be careful as using that option for purchasing goods is against Paypal rules and can lead to account limitation.

If you funded your Paypal payment via a credit card then contact your card issuer and see if they will help you but unfortunately they may decline as well as it was a gift payment.

Educating user is one thing, you guys need to do something as well. It’s not a one way street as users are getting scammed by criminals who are misusing it. More and more are using it for malicious reason. We don’t need to hear WHY you used it part. A response from one of your template for common questions. We already know we made a mistake. Believe it or not, it leaves psychological impact.
