I received a friends/family payment from someone I don’t know. I have not accepted it. They are asking for me to return the funds saying it was a mistake. I don’t see any way to reject a payment. And I refuse to prospectively accept as I’m sure this is a scam. What is the suggest course of action?

If its telling you that you have to accept it then just leave it and it should time out and go back to the sender at 30 days.
However if you accept it then you can just click on the transaction in your paypal account and use the 'refund' option at the bottom of that details page to return the money.
Its quite easy for someone to make a typo or spelling error using an email address or phone number when they send the funds and it goes to another person in error, does not make it a scam. If you are refunding funds received then how can they scam you?
Advice is voluntary.
Kudos / Solution appreciated.
