I have an open dispute and the seller wants me to cancel it to issue a refund. Thoughts?

I opened a dispute with a seller because the product I received did not match the description. I am requesting a full refund. The seller is offering a lower amount. Since the shipping cost for returning the product would be more than what I'm due, I decided to accept their offer.
However, now the seller wants me to close the dispute before giving me the refund. This seems wrong to me, since closing the dispute takes it off their record and they essentially get away with the deception.
Is this common? Should I close the dispute?

If you had to close a case to get a refund then it would be pointless opening one.
NEVER close a dispute / claim until you have a refund.
If the seller issued a refund then that would close the dispute automatically.
If he doesn't escalate to a claim.
Do not close it or he can ignore you and you can't open a second dispute OR re-open a closed one.
Advice is voluntary.
Kudos / Solution appreciated.

I don't know the answer to your specifics. But, I would recommend sending a copy of the seller's communications to PayPal. When you open your dispute page, there is a box to submit further information. It worked for me!

I am happy to report success in getting a full refund!
I took a screenshot of the seller's email asking me to close the dispute, and sent that to PayPal as additional information on the dispute page.
I think that helped.
Thanks PayPal!
