Hello @Fons51,
Thank you for joining the PayPal Community Help!
Sorry to hear the issue with your recent purchase. I understand that would be upsetting! Friends & Family payment option is not intended for the purchase of goods/services. Friends & Family payments are not covered under PayPal Purchase Protection. When there's a issue with Friends & Family payment, your best option would be resolving it with the recipient. If a resolution can't be met and you paid using your card or bank, reach out to your financial institution to seek other dispute options.
To avoid such issues in the future and to avail of PayPal's purchase protection, always send your payment as Goods & Service (instead of friends & Family). So if you have any issue with the transaction, you can dispute it with PayPal to get a refund if eligible.
Best wishes,
Bindu

A friends / family (or gift payment) is intended as a transfer of funds from family or friends to one another. For this reason, there is no processing fee when payment is made with bank or PayPal balance.
However as it is a gift payment, there is also no buyer protection as no goods or services should have been exchanged.
You would also not be able to open a dispute (apart from one citing an unauthorised transaction), which would be automatically closed as you did authorise the initial payment.
If you funded your Paypal payment via a credit card then contact your card issuer and see if they will help you but unfortunately they may decline as well as it was a gift payment.
Advice is voluntary.
Kudos / Solution appreciated.
