When you add a bank account to paypal it sets up the direct debit mandate JPMC Paypal so that paypal can take authorised payments for any purchases you make (or pay your Ebay fees).
No company eg water/electric can take funds from your bank account on a regular basis without that direct debit.
However the amount shown is always the ''last'' transaction / amount that you paid to a seller via paypal.
It is not a 'regular' payment and won't change until you pay your next seller.
Sometimes it does not coincide with the date you made the payment as paypal CREDIT the seller in advance and then paypal wait for the funds to transfer from your bank account, they can 'leave' that account at anytime from a few hours up to a few days later. Also the 'amount' can sometimes not be recognised if you used it as a part-payment with the rest coming from funds already in your paypal balance.
JMPC Paypal is on my list of direct debits but as I only tend to fund my payments via a credit card the DD correctly shows the LAST seller I paid via paypal / bank account in 2021.
Advice is voluntary.
Kudos / Solution appreciated.

Have spent a truly annoying and highly inconvenient amount of expensive time researching this. I have discovered that JPMC re Paypal is the new notation for direct payments from your bank to Paypal. So, something you've bought on line will now be showing on your bank statement this way. You have to take each such payment showing on your bank account and check it back to your Paypal online statement to find out what the payment is for.
If it is of interest, JPMC stands for JP Morgan Chase Bank. Personally, I would rather see the retailer's name on my bank statement so that I don't have to spend ages finding out what the expenditure is for (or even more time finding out what on earth this reference was all about!)
Sadly, I'll be using Paypal a lot less because of this.
Hope my explanation helps?

If you have a bank account on your paypal account then you would have a direct debit.
If you have been hacked that is another issue as JMPC (JPMorgan Chase) is Paypal so if you were hacked then that is a separate issue if the scammer used your paypal account and the payment was funded via your bank account.
JMPC Paypal is on my list of direct debits but as I only tend to fund my payments via a credit card the DD correctly shows the LAST seller I paid via paypal / bank account in 2021.

Its anything that you use paypal for funded from your bank account and not a card.
Also any subscriptions you have funded from that card.
