Need advice, Digital river unauthorized pay, how to tighten security?

I noticed today something odd in my account, I was charged about 10 euros from a company known as Digital river, I never dealt with them before and after a bit or research I found out they deal with digital transactions and services. I have checked all my accounts embedded to paypal and have not found anything related to them - just in case I did so - and really have no clue to how they managed to charge me.

I was wondering other than setting down a dispute, and changing all security questions and passwords, what else should I do? Should I consider my credit card in danger and cancel it? I heard sometimes some frauds charge small amounts before wiping your account clean to see if they get away with it.

Also has anyone else been scammed by these people? What did you do?

Although I have expressly stated that Digital River Ireland, Ltd. collects money through PayPal on the basis of expired third-party requests (in my case AVG Technologies), my legitimate request has been ridiculed by PayPal:

We’ve completed our review of your unauthorized activity case PP-I-12308374, and we’ve determined there was no unauthorized use.
For more information about these cases, log in to your PayPal account and go to the Resolution Center.
Sincerely,
PayPal "

It is not the first time that Digital River Ireland, Ltd. has broken into my account, forcing me to change my bank card and now, to give up PayPal services, as an intermediary to the thieves of the Irish company.

I just had a similar situation. An unexpected payment taken by Digital River Ireland Ltd. It turns out that the payment was taken on behalf of AVG for a subscription to their AVG Tuneup software. I had taken the offer of a "Free Trial" back in October and having decided that I did not wish to continue the subscription following the "Free Trial", I thought I had cancelled it. It appears not! However, there may be some good news for anyone who has recently had this happen. AVG offer a 30 day refund on subscriptions. It takes a little finding on their website and of course you need an account (it should already exist, even if it was set up by AVG under your email). I have now requested the refund from AVG within the 30 day period, now I will wait to see if they give back the money as easily as they took it.

AVG has outsourced its accounting to the Irish company Digital River, but in the end they will be in a loss. I have been a subscriber to AVG since they were a growing Czech company and for decades I was satisfied, until Digital River came "on the wire", with their pirate methods of entering AVG customers' accounts, WITHOUT THEIR AGREEMENT! The only way to get rid of this ordeal was to completely give up any touch with AVG, remaining only with the protection offered by Windows 10 Pro. Probably, soon, AVG will not feel comfortable due to the rapacity of the "friend" company Digital River. A proverb says "greed loses humanity"!

AVG's reputation certainly suffers from this type of practice and relationship with Digital River Ireland, I think your "Pirate" description is justified.

I have received an email this morning from AVG to confirm they will refund my 69.99€ within 7 working days. This response was quick and without fuss but it should not have been necessary. I know many companies including Amazon and Apple operate similar tactics to lure people to take out a "Free Trial" but then make it difficult to cancel (or they anticipate that people will simply forget) before it automatically becomes a paid subscription. The difference with Digital River Ireland/AVG is that in many cases the payment appears to have had the following hallmarks:

1. taken when customers thought they had already cancelled their subscription.

2. has no reference to AVG on the payment details (only an online search alerted me to the fact that it could be connected to AVG)

It looks like I will get my money back but the damage is done as far as I am concerned. I had to take several hours (on Christmas Day!!) to sort this out. I had considered not chasing this and accepting that I had made a mistake. However, that attitude is exactly what allows AVG & Digital River Ireland Ltd to keep doing this. I have now stopped using AVG software and perhaps, if enough people respond in a similar way, they may change their ways.

Digital River Ireland **bleep**ed me out of £74.99 and when I went to dispute this with PayPal they said that it was authorised. I have not bought anything affiliated with them and there’s no record of any past transactions. My next step is calling PayPal and ask why they can’t help.

TRUE! YESTERDAY 25TH DECEMBER 2020 THE DIGITAL RIVER IRELAND LTD COMPANY SCAMMED ME TOO. I RECEIVED AN EMAIL SAYING THAT A TRANSACTION FOR 59,99 HAD COME FROM MY PAYPAL ACCOUNT TO A THIS COMPANY. THEN I NOTIFIED PAYPAL THAT I WAS NOT I WHO AUTHORISED THE TRANSACTION BUT THEY CLOSED THE CASE TELLING ME THAT I HAD AUTHORISED IT INSTEAD. SO I ALSO WENT TO LOOK ON GO ON WEBSITE AND I FOUND OUT IT'S A SCAM AND IT HAS HAPPENED TO MANY PEOPLE. SO I ASK PAYPAL TO DO SOMETHING TO RESOLVE THIS SITUATION. IT'S A BIG SCAM!!!!

For Licence number or product key you can put transaction ID its starts letters and numbers it is also in your paypal you can see and submit they will send you confirmation e mail if payment was before 30 days they will refund you straight away. This has just happened to me for $70. Paypal have told me there is nothing they can do and were quite rude about it. Why is PayPal allowing this to continue? They have no duty of care at all, terrible service and not willing to help.
