Potential scam, need advise

I'm selling something on a Facebook market place for £180. After some back and forth with a potential buyer, I gave him my email for PayPal. He said he sent the money. I then received an email saying my account couldn't be credited because I hit my limit for a non-business account and that the buyer needed to send £320 to upgrade the account. The buyer said they received a message saying this too. No notification is on my PayPal account saying anything and the email was a Gmail account which doesn't feel quite right. I'm sure it's a scam but need a second opinion so I don't accidentally put an innocent man out of money.

You never pay any upfront fee as a seller.

Ignore scammers that send fake Paypal emails telling you that you need to pay an upfront fee to verify/upgrade to a business account/or any other reason to accept a payment.

You would certainly never have to send funds especially via another payment processor/bitcoins/ or tokens/vouchers of any sort.

Any fee is auto deducted by Paypal at the same instant the remainder of the payment is credited to your Paypal account balance.

No funds in your balance = you have not yet been paid, even pending/held payments will still show in your Paypal account activity.

I had exactly the same problem tonight. Requesting me to send £100 to their account before the deposit was made, this is when I began to see red flags. Email was extremely poorly written but the scammer was very persistent, stay safe out there people.

I can see how receiving that email would be concerning to you. If you receive any email about payments or activity on a PayPal account, the safest way to confirm the email’s validity is to log in to a PayPal account via the PayPal website (not using the links in the email received). Any of the activity reported in the email will be available to view.
