I think your friend is not a “real” friend but a scammer. This is not how PayPal works. PayPal will never ask you to refund in order to receive money or to send money to receive money. PayPal fees are automatically deducted from incoming payment. The emails are likely fake that’s why it goes to your spam folder.

If someone said they paid but see no money or record of payment in your account, they are either scamming, you didn’t confirm your email address and/or sender sent money to wrong PayPal email address.

Kudos & Solved are greatly appreciated. 🙂

Hey @cssbose01,

Welcome to our community help forum and thanks for the help @sharpiemarker!

I understand your confusion here. When someone initiates a payment to your PayPal account, you will always receive an email with the details of the payment and the same will reflect in your PayPal activity. All PayPal accounts allow you to send and receive payments. PayPal will never ask the customers to upgrade their accounts or refund the amounts in order to receive payments.

If the email is landing in spam folder, it means you're not receiving a legit PayPal email. Please forward suspicious emails or messages to phishing@paypal.com.

I hope this information helps,

Bindu
