Repeatedly getting "We couldn't verify your bank account" emails with different account numbers.

I'm more than certain this is some weird phishing or scam that's being pulled, but I'm noticing a lot of emails over the course of today and yesterday with the message of "We attempted to verify your bank account ending in xx-XXXX and this verification has failed." (the XXXX portion is the 4 digits of some account number.)

I haven't attempted to add an account number since probably three years ago, and I've received probably 20 of these emails.  Looking at the headers, they are legitimate emails, so I'm not certain what's going on.  I've got MFA set up, and outside of logging in just now, I haven't had any requests for an MFA code.

Password works fine, and I can't actually see any activity when I'm logging into PayPal, so I'm confused.  Is there something going on with this?

Check the Wallet page of your account, do you see any bank accounts you do not recognize? With unconfirmed bank accounts, while funds can’t be transferred from bank to PayPal account or used as a payment method for purchases, they can be withdrawn to.

I would change pswd as a precaution. And scan your devices for viruses, etc, clear browser cookies and cache. Uninstall and reinstall app.

Kudos & Solved are greatly appreciated. 🙂

My account currently has a 0.00 balance at the moment (as it usually does), and I’ve checked every corner of the site but see nothing in terms of any alerts. I did notice that the emails I am receiving all say “Hello ,” at the top, like the name is missing. Part of me is wondering if this is an actual glitch on PayPal’s behalf.

I’m having the same issue. Tried calling PayPal… perpetual hold. Sent emails to PayPal - got canned replies…

I'm getting these emails as well. I did manage after waiting some hours to get a customer support person on chat and they weren't able to offer any real insight beyond checking that these weren't older, unused bank accounts. But none of these accounts were showing up in my "Wallet."

The emails don't bear any of the telltale signs of phishing: they seem to be coming from a verified [removed] email address; the headers look legitimate (sent over TLS and bearing a DKIM certificate); and the links in the email all go to paypal.com urls (I haven't clicked any of them). The one odd thing is that the emails don't include my full name as it says in the email footer that they should.

The same thing happened to me last night and I checked my wallet and everything seemed fine. I would guess its a glitch. Everything seemed fine when I got into my account.

Same thing happened to both my and my wife's accounts. Both of us received several emails as described above. All were in regards to old closed bank accounts, some dating back several years. The only thing different was I also got an email from one of the closed account banks :

PAYPAL from (my name) tried to either deposit money into or withdraw money from your account. Unfortunately we could not complete this transaction because this account is closed. Please contact them to re-process this transaction with another account.

Amount: $0.00
Account:[removed]

Looks to me like attempts are actually being made to move funds through these closed accounts using Paypal.

I do not know what else to make of it. As a precaution I removed all but one bank with a $0 balance and one locked credit card from our PayPals. All CRAs are frozen and I setup 2-step on both Paypal accounts. Dont know what else to do.
