I logged into the community to see if anyone else has had a similar thing happen to them. I was quite surprised at how many posts have mentioned the same thing, yet I hadn't noticed anyone point out the obvious. Firstly I'd like to point out I had a faultless, safe account way back when PayPal began trading and I was using it along side eBay.
In 2023, I started receiving notifications about transactions being made using my account...money was not taken by any one individual but two donations were made to charity, one transaction to a random @ AOL email address and several payments made to random unrelated online businesses. I managed to stop my card via my banking app and then received an email to say that my phone number was changed, my name on the account was changed and then this person submitted a request to close the account.
Barclays bank have managed to stop single, unrelated transactions on my card within minutes. Calling me the same day and confirming the unauthorised transactions have been resolved and saving me a lot of grief.
PayPal have played ignorant to the activity on my old account, it's either that or stupidity, because I was asked the most ridiculous questions relating to this incident. No one gained anything financially from the hacked account, my money was spent and then the account was closed. To add insult to injury, I was told NOTHING can be done about the closed account regardless of the money spent, account name change etc.
I had to fight to get any of my money back but I eventually did. A child could understand the timeline of events, yet I was given many excuses.
Using my old email address, I setup a new account. There are new terms and conditions, new rules for using my new account. At present, a large amount of money is on hold, Paypal are with holding money and anyone with an ounce of intelligence knows why that is good for them. Why would a loyal customer receive treatment like this?
Breaking this down in simple terms...my old PayPal account, secure with 2 step authentication, is "hacked" money disappears, account is close permanently, new account is required. New account comes with terms and conditions. I have seen this has happened to many users. This is starting to feel like an inside job. Customer service representatives struggle to answer basic questions, although your account is transparent to them, they cannot share information with you about how your account has been breached. It has all the signs of utilising Ai to strip people of old accounts and bring them in line with new T&C's. There is no rhyme or reason for the above otherwise. @ai @hacking

I also have a very old and albeit recently inactive acount. I've had a large sum of money in PayPal wallet due to online freelancing in a different currency, which some entity tried to change my account to a business address, changed to the local currency and replace my bank account with their own, and moved the money to! While the automatic suspicious activity filter blocked that initial attempt, it let it through only recently! Paypal refuses to deem it an unauthorised transaction! I don't know what to do as customer service does not deal with the tickets, am debating to contact the local authorities as Paypal is dragging their feet to resolve the issue.

Well, I came to this community because I am from Nigeria and Nigerians are not allowed to contact the customer service of PayPal directly. I wanted to propose to PayPal a more secure way to handle client accounts without the possibility of being hacked or even the person being defrauded on the internet. I call this PayPal secure, using this nobody can access you account even though they have the password, and if they have access, they can't still do anything to the account because with PayPal secure, your account is managed on the client instead of on the server, but the client's data are managed in a decentralized blockchain system to ensure authenticity. So your account is totally secured from being hacked. Also, with PayPal Secure, your account is also secured from being scammed, that is even though you make a payment for a product, with the decentralized system controlled by agreements, if the conditions of the transaction do not meet as written in the agreement, the payer can claim back his funds without the intervention of PayPal or any Partner. So making your PayPal account not just hack proof, but also fraud proof. So if anyone have access to PayPal customer service, please help me make them know about this. I will also try and contact them maybe by using VPN. All I know is that everyone deserves a secure and robust financial lifestyle.
