overpayment received - is it a scam?

I have received 2 orders/payments from 2 separate people, both of which have paid £1 more than the total bill. This seems bvery odd & has never happened before. Odd that it should happen twice in a few days. It says payment has been completed but it is on hold. Is this a scam? I've read of a scam where they ask for a refund & then they cancel the original payment too. How can I tell if it is ligit??

Hey @tigercat71,

Welcome to PayPal Community Forum and thank you for posting!

I understand that you are concerned about the payment that you have received from the people, which is more than the total bill. I know it's confusing, and you would like to know if it's legit. Usually, when you receive a payment, you will receive a confirmation email from us. Also, you will be able to see the details on the activity page. I request that you double-check the payment details in the activity log. If you are able to see the payments but they're on hold, please wait for 21 days to get the funds back. Click on this link to learn more about the payment hold. If you are unable to see the details on the activity page, please do ship the item or provide a service. Also, if a buyer files a dispute or asks for a refund, you can provide the requested information in the resolution center. We will review the case, before we close the dispute or issue a refund.

I hope this helps.

Shriharsha.
