Digital downloads

Hi there

I want to sell digital download products.  I need it to work so that when the customer has paid for their purchase, they are redirected back  to my site and a download link where they can download the product straight away.  Is this possible?

If it is, which cart package do I need and how do I set it up?

I have a normal 'post item' website and the paypal works superbly for me, so would like to stay with you if possible.

Thanks.

Hey there, here’s how to create an 'Add to Cart' button for your website:

  1. Go to www.paypal.co.uk and log in to your account.
  2. Click 'Merchant Services' near the top of the page.
  3. Click 'Managing your business.'
  4. Click 'Create a new button' under 'Accepting payments.'
  5. Select 'Shopping cart' under 'Choose a button type,' customise your button, and then click 'Save Changes.'
  6. Click 'Select Code,' and copy and paste the button code into your HTML code.

You should create a separate 'Add to Cart' button for each item you're selling on your website.

Once the HTML code has been added to your website, some of the shopping cart features can be tested. However, the full payment flow cannot be tested, as PayPal does not allow members to make a payment to themselves.

To test the shopping cart feature:

  1. Go to your website where the shopping cart was added.
  2. Add some items to the shopping cart by clicking "Add to Cart".
  3. To view the items, click "View Cart".

Your computer will have cookies enabled, so you will see your own PayPal username. However, when your Buyer clicks "View Cart" they will see their own PayPal username if they have a PayPal account.

If the customer is not a PayPal member, they will have the option to open an account or continue to pay with a credit card. In order to test this, you must first clear your cookies.

Please Note: Members are permitted to have both a Personal account and a Business/Premier account. For testing purposes, a member may want to open a separate Personal PayPal account.

Click on "Developers" at the bottom of any PayPal page for further technical tips.

You asked a question regarding adding a paypal button to your website so that people could download a digital product.  I need to do the same and wondered if you got an answer?  Look forward to hearing from you.  fiveflavours

Popular carts for digital downloads are:

www.e-junkie.com

www.payloadz.com

Paypal offers "express checkout for digital goods" However you would need a programmer to implement this .

So by reading the above, one cannot implement Digital-Downloads through Pay Pal, yet Pay Pal advertise this option at www.paypal.com/digital-goods. But nowhere can I find any instructions to implement this onto my site.

Just something in plane simple English (a dummies guide) and easy to follow guide would be good.

I have searched PayPal in entirety and I'm very displeased to find nothing apart from using a third party with more costs.

Something simple as I am not a web programmer but dabble a little in HTML.

So the questions are, can I implement Digital-Downloads with PayPal itself and if so how?

Regards

Glenn

Hi Trakman,

Here is all the information that I have in relation to digital goods. It may not be what you are looking for and if not please go to our PayPal Developer website where you may find what you are looking for.

  4. Click 'Add Product' under 'PayPal for Digital Goods (PayPal Express Checkout).'
  5. Click 'learn more and sign up'to sign up for micropayments pricing.
  6. Click 'Agree and Sign Up' to complete your micropayments registration.

If you don't have a PayPal Business account, you need one to sign up for digital goods (express checkou). Here's how:

  1. Go to www.paypal.com.sg and click 'Sign Up.'
  2. Click 'Get Started under 'Business.'

I am having so much trouble here! I have a business account, trying to sell digital products and do everything in the list until I get to here:

Click 'Add Product' under 'PayPal for Digital Goods (PayPal Express Checkout).'

I have NO add product option, only  a learn more option and cannot for the life of me find how to sign up for it, which is what it says where 'Add Product' should be!

I am going round in circles and the help auto lady has never heard of digital goods!

What am I doing wrong?

This is exactly what I get - I gave up ages ago, trying another account in Google and other payment sites... PayPal is not user friendly at all

I can't get what I need from PayPal so I go else where, I suggest you do the same.

Dear Paula,

My digital download is e-mail size, so all I need from the customer is the email address.

Will I receive the customers' email or do I need to specify this in the optional text-box when creating the Buy Now button?

If that is the case, I would be grateful to receive a code which centers both the text box AND the button.

I have surfed around all over the web without finding a solution to the left-aligned text field...

Much appreciated!

Thanks ,

Elinros
