I am selling an item on ebay, a buyer has sent me a payment thru paypal, it has not appeared on my account even though i have received a confirmation email. They want me to send money to a delivery company thru moneygram and i dont know how because the money is not in my paypal account and i dont have £500 in my account to send to the company. Help?

THIS IS A SCAM.

They encourage you to use paypal and often ask you to send the item as a gift to a relative somewhere often Nigeria.

You will get/got a "fake" email that looks as though it is from paypal.....it isn't.

It will say the buyer has paid ...you won't have been paid.

They will tell you that the payment is released when you provide paypal with a tracking/shipping number......this won't happen.

Or if the item requires shipping they will tell you that they will pay you extra and you must pay the agent via western union / moneygram BEFORE the funds are released to you. They are not interested in the item, they just want the western union etc funds and you will never see money in your paypal balance.

They also threaten legal action...have a laugh at that one and ignore it as its rubbish.

Paypal NEVER tell you to send trackable, they advise it for seller protection etc but it is not compulsory.

Paypal NEVER tell you to send an item before the payment is showing in your paypal account.

Paypal NEVER expect you to use a rival money transfer service.

Delete any emails and ignore the scammers.

Dear Paypal, I will tell you my full story. I decided to sell a dress on dubaizzle. I got 4 emails from buyers that would buy the dress. The four buyers wrote for me almost same emails claiming that they prefer to send the money by paypal and asked for my bank account or paypal account. And when I said call me on my mobile all buyers said that they on ship working and do not have phones !!! I got many emails from "fake paypal website" saying that: "You've received a payment Dear Lamees The total sum of 475.00 OMR that was transferred to you by Jason Parr has been fully deducted from the buyers account which includes the Transport/Delivery Charges and is ready to be transferred into your your own account, but before the transaction can be finalized you would have to Pay the Transport Charges to the Transport Company. In order complete this transaction and get the funds credited into your account, you have to go to your closest Money Gram Office or visit the money gram online (www.MoneyGram.com) and transfer the excess sum of 120.00 OMR to the Transport Agent and send us a Scanned Copy/ Photograph of your Money Gram Transaction Receipt (in .JPG Format). Below is a step by step guide on how to make the transfer: 1. Go to any Money Gram Office close to your home. 2. Ask for a Money Gram transfer form. 3. Fill the form with the address details provided below. 4. Tender the cash and you will be issued a receipt after the money has been sent 5. Attach and email a scanned copy of the receipt to us or type out the details on the receipt such as : Sender's Name; Receiver's Name; Ref number; Amount Sent; The payment will be released into your account shortly after the Money Gram receipt has been received from you. I refused to do this and got many many emails from them claiming that I have to do this or they will take legal action against me " your account will be suspended in 12 hours!!! Dear Lamees, It has come to our understanding that you have no intention of transferring the 120.00 OMR between you and Jason Parr PayPal heartily advise you to complete the transaction within the next 12 hours, as failure to do so will result to the limiting of your account access and Legal Action(s) against you personally, as we have already retrieved all your personal details from our database and we are ready to take appropriate Legal Action(s) against you. We have informed the FBI and Interpol for the violating PayPal's instructions and users agreement in act of the 1999 Law in collaboration with the World Law Enforcement Agency.Please get back to us wit the necessary details to our verification department You are expected to respond to this dispute before the next 12 hours with the required Money Gram Details for proper verification.." I opened the internet and read about these type of actions and I realised that it is a scam !!!

DO NOT SEND MONEY FOR 'SHIPPING' UNTIL YOU 100% HAVE RECEIVED ALL MONEY INTO YOUR BANK ACCOUNT!!! This is a scam that I have just discovered! I copied and pasted the response I got into google and someone else had gotten the exact word for word response! I have done with someone.it is deffinately a scam. Do not reply to email again just ignore and send no details or money. The response I received: Thanks for your response. €*** is a nice and acceptable price. I will be adding the 3.9% PayPal surcharge to the total amount i will be paying you. So i will be paying directly into your PayPal account without any delay, and i hope you have a PayPal account. If you have one already, just send me the address to send it to, which is the email address you use for it or you can send me a PayPal money request, so once i receive the details i will go ahead with the payment through PayPal and then i will contact my shipping company after you get the payment. I will need your home address for the merchandise to be Picked Up by the Shipping Company. Have a nice day. If this is or is similar to what you received, don't reply! Thank you for taking the time to post in our Community.

I am sorry to inform you that a fraudulent buyer is contacting you. This is not how PayPal works so I would advise to stop contact with this buyer and to look for a new buyer. 

If you received a payment the money will always show in your PayPal balance. If there is no money on your PayPal balance it means that you did not receive a payment. 

The confirmation email that you received is not from PayPal This is a fake email that is trying to make it look as if you received a payment. If you still have this email please send it to spoof@paypal.com and we will take further action on this. 

Please don't worry about any legal action being taken against you. They use this to scare you so that you will send the money to them. This is just a scam and no legal can and will be taken against you. 

The fraudulent buyer is trying to make you send money to them. As you never received any money from them this will mean that you lose any money that you send through Moneygram. 

I would advise to ignore any emails from them and to look for another honest buyer. This is known scam and you don’t have to worry about any action being taken against you :).
