PayPal sent money to Hacked Account

I sent £100 to a friend via his PayPal address (for sake of argument firstnamesurname at hotmail ) He complained he hadn't ha it and when checking my account it had shown as paid. He told me I should use firstnameDOTsurname at hotmail (note the dot between the first and last names) and that PayPal should not have paid the money into the first account as they knew it had been hacked. I sent it friends and family so have no sellers recourse, theres no option to click for a refund, and can't find a place to contact PayPal without a prescribed question that mine doesn't fit into. At the moment I'm £100 down, what can I do ? Thanks

Not a lot.

Paypal sends the payments to the accounts YOU choose to send it to.

He says that he advised them that the account had been hacked. This is the account I have always used to send him money and it appears in my drop down menu for him. If I was unaware that this account had been hacked, and paypal had been advised not to allocate funds to this account, surely they have some responsibiity ? Thanks !

Yes and that is why if you file a dispute you have a good chance of a refund.    Smiley Happy
