Received money, but doesn't show in balance

I got a text saying I received a payment (landlord returning my housing deposit, and yes the link continues on to the legitimate PayPal site), and when I go to claim it it says "The money from [landlord] is now in your account." But when I check my balance so that I can transfer it to my bank account, it shows a balance of $0. I thought maybe it was a glitch so I hit "Transfer", and it said "There's nothing to transfer right now. Try again when you have a PayPal balance." Can anyone tell me what the deal here is? Thanks.

I can understand that this is frustrating :(.

Can you check if you have registered the phone number to your account? This would be needed in order to claim the money. If the phone number is already added you should also have received an email from us confirming the payment received. If you did not receive the email I would advise to contact us so that we can help you further to claim the payment. You can contact us through the 'Help & Contact' link at the bottom of each page or you can use twitter @AskPayPal or Facebook: www.facebook.com/PayPal.

Thanks for the reply. I checked again and my phone number was indeed registered to my account, but I guess I had never "confirmed" the number. Once I confirmed it the money showed up in my balance.

ive just had this today, my number was already registered and my friend has paid me via this number on paypal before yet today it wasnt working.  I had to remove my mobile number and re add it.

 

Why??
