Using Paypal Balance for Purchase

Hello, I have money in my Paypal balance but whenever I go to purchase something online it immediately asks for a debit or credit card and there is no way I can make it withdraw from my Paypal balance. How can I get it to take from Paypal balance without adding a card or bank. I've looked at certain threads and they say to go under the Money tab and click Payment preferences but when I do that it says to choose my preferred payment method and it says confirm only and when I press that it says to "choose an option from the list" but there is no list for the options. Can someone help me?

Its unlikely you can use funds in your paypal account balance unless you add a debit or credit card to verify that paypal account and act as a back up funding source.

Ok so I have to have a credit card in to actually do the purchase and when I go to make the purchase will it charge the credit card or will it charge my Paypal balance since it verifies the account with the credit card?

In other words, does adding the credit card just become a way to verify my account and when I make a purchase it will pop the option to use my Paypal balance?

Depends what you have set up as your preferred funding source.

Go to the cog icon next to log out > click on payments > scroll down to your 'preferred way to pay' > make sure paypal balance is ticked.

This is the main problem I'm having is that when someone gives me directions like that on Paypal it always shows up different on my screen

ok bit confused, why does it say USD on a UK paypal account?

Are you in the UK or US?

If you are in the UK then have you accepted a payment in another currency?

Does your paypal balance actually have cleared funds in it or are they pending?

I'm in the US but I accidently posted on the UK page and I'm pretty sure they are cleared funds that are in my paypal balance at the moment. I called Customer Support and I have the full balance in my account and it also appears when I text "BAL" to paypal however don't know why it says "your money is waiting" (probably Paypal just want it transferred to a bank but I want to keep it in my Paypal account and use it from there).

Also by the way, I just cancelled a Money Request I had sent to someone, does this mean everything will be fine now because that originally said pending instead of cancelled?
