How to verify merchant is indeed PayPal Verified?

Hi everyone.  I'm a n00b on Paypal, tho I've had it for years.

I have a question I hope someone can help with.

There's a suspicious website that has a PayPal Verified logo.

I've seen a lot of negative reports regarding a website that charges incredibly low prices for items that would be double or triple the cost if purchased elsewhere.   I've also seen some people post on various consumer boards complaining about this site, like ripoffreport dot com.

SO how do I know if someone who has the "PayPal Verified" logo is actually PayPal verified or if that suggests their legitimacy?  They just added it on their site.

I have asked them on their chat module for an actual address or phone number, and they hang up on me.  Here is the below conversation I had with them:

That site doesn't seem legit already.

But now I noticed they have the PayPal Verified Logo.   Can I ask PayPal if someone is Verified or not?

theanth- The PayPal Verified logo just means that the merchant is verified, or that they've gone through a few extra steps to confirm their identity.  Usually it means that they added and confirmed a bank account.  And while I wouldn't be able to speak to the legitimacy of the company, I will agree that sometimes if it seems too good to be true, let the buyer beware.  Or something like that 🙂
