sending a manual invoice for an ebay item

hello!  I am trying to sell a "buy it now" item from the US to AU.  The buyer is getting a message that tells her she "needs to request a manual PayPal invoice so that she can pay directly with PayPal".  do i send her a request for money or invoice through paypal?  and if so, does that link back up to ebay to show that the item was purchased from ebay?  confused on the process.  my goal is to have her buy it from ebay.  thanks.

Welcome to the boards!

That's very interesting - as far as I know, eBay doesn't have an error code which directly asks buyers to have their seller invoice them via PayPal.  This is because it doesn't link back up with eBay, and therefore, eBay cannot track the sales or adjust sellers accounts appropriately.  Has your buyer won the auction?  Are there any issues with unclaimed payments?

Keep us updated,

thanks so much for your reply.  that is very interesting.  should i be alarmed?  it's my first time dealing with an international buyer(from AU).  i sent her a invoice and she's telling me she received another canned email saying my account doesn't take payment from outside the US??  the item on Ebay is listed as a "buy it now" with the shipping cost included.  I only accept credit card payment so i should be safe if she pays the invoice, right??  i'd rather have her purchase through ebay directly but haven't been able to figure how to do this with ebay yet.  thanks.

You're welcome!

As for the new error your buyer is receiving, it sounds as if they are either mis-typing your email address or, frankly, the information they're feeding you may not be entirely truthful.  If you're located in the US, your account has no problem taking payments.... from anywhere, anytime, in any way they have available.

I would recommend taking this route to your buyer: ask them to use the Buy Now button; if they cannot do so, to contact eBay and PayPal for assistance with their account.  Let them know it's for your protection, and their protection, because that way you have a higher likelihood of coverage under our Seller Protection Policy and they have full protection through eBay and/or PayPal.

If you do wind up going through with this transaction, take some time to familiarize yourself with the terms and conditions of our Seller Protection Policy, so that you know what you need after receiving the funds to stay protected.

And, as always, never ship an item out until you can see the funds credited to your available or pending balance.  Smiley Happy

Stay safe,

Adrian

I'm going through the same issue, only with a buyer from Canada.  I know the reason for me is that I have Canada (and all other countries outside the US) on an exclusion list.  I didn't want to deal with some of the export issues.  This buyer, though, really wants to buy some of my products and I'm looking for a way to accommodate him.  He would pay through PayPal and even offered to handle shipping & export requirements himself.  A note on eBay seemed to suggest there was a way process the sale through PayPal but I see there is not.  In my case, I'm going back to eBay to see if I can find another way.  If not, I will probably lift the exclusion, at least temporarily, until this sale is completed.

claskoskie,

If you do want the buyer to complete the sale via eBay, then yes, you will have to lift the exclusion there.  Otherwise, you can provide them your email address and they can use the Send Money feature to pay you directly.

One additional concern I would note for your particular situation - if a seller allows a buyer to purchase and ship the item on their own (i.e., the buyer arranges for a shipping a service, rather than the seller shipping it on their own), any Seller Protection is voided.  So my recommendation would be just to have them pay for the shipping costs in the payment itself, and then arrange shipping as normal.
