Can't receive payment from US company to Barbados

Hi there.

I recently won an online sweepstakes hosted by a large US company. It was available worldwide but when the company tried to process my prize disbursement, they said that their accounting system could not send payment to me via PayPal, and instead sent me an Amazon gift card.

This is strange, because I have been sending one-off and recurring payments to American individuals and companies for years - with no issues.

My country, Barbados, is an approved sender and recipient of PayPal payments. It is even possible to transfer PayPal earnings from a PayPal account registered in Barbados to a US-based bank account or credit card owned by the same person.

I need to know why this happened because I'm concerned that I will have to reconfigure all of my newly set up online business ventures to receive payments via Payoneer, Xoom, Stripe, Neteller or some other escrow service rather than through PayPal.

Also check the auto sweep feature is enabled on your paypal account to make sure you can receive funds.

Hi, thanks for your response.

Like I said, Barbados is already on the approved list of payment recipients, so that's not the issue.

It turns out that one's Visa card has to be set as the default payment option in order to receive payments outside of the US. At least that's what PayPal customer service told me.

I'll test it out with a friend and update this thread accordingly.
