Paypal in Mauritius

Hello,

I recently created an online business in Mauritius and using Paypal on Shopify to accept credit card payments. So far it's been a nightmare. I cannot link any bank from Mauritius to my PayPal account and all my transactions are on hold???? Can anyone help me with understanding how I can retrieve my money locally and make sure my transactions are not going on hold?

It's impossible to get someone to help from PayPal and the only options it seems is to open a bank account in the US and link it to my Paypal account to retrieve my money. I don't even live in the USA, how am I suppose to get an account there?

I must say it's such a rip off, specially for small business in developing countries. There are zero options for PayPal and barely any help available. If you are looking to open an online business in Mauritius, I would advise NOT to use PayPal! Unless they improve their presence on the island.

Hey there! I wanted to ask whether you were talking about a general Paypal personal account or a Paypal business account? I do have a personal account and know that everything you mentioned is right. However, what the original post is talking about is for Paypal business account. Do you have an online business too? I am planning to start my own so it would really help if i knew that worked!

Hi @poupette96  PayPal can be linked to an MCB account, speak to the banker about the Juice app. Google this 🙂 You can link your local card through them.

Alternatively, you can also link a Credit card from any bank to your account to make use of withdrawing and topping up funds, but it is recommended to rather go through MCB as it is the cheaper option.

Ignore the " Link a bank account" section- as that only applies for US citizens.

It is the same in South Africa, you have to link a valid FNB card and enter your card details to make use of withdrawing PayPal funds into RSA.

In regards to your Paypal funds being on hold, I do hope you came right with this. Usually, they (Paypal) require you to upload all your credentials, utility bill, ID documents etc. You can find out how to contact them with lots of googling. I used to call USA Paypal for them to assist if I couldn't contact the South African site. Someone will help, or they can assist in transferring you to the correct department. Do this through Skype or another app that charges a minimum for international calls.

What I would like to know is what is the percentage charged to send money from one Mauritian paypal account to another local Mauritian Paypal account.

What is the fee to do this, and why can we not make use of the "Friends and Family" option that other countries are allowed.

Hi @SoulT ! Actually what @poupette96 is asking is about Paypal Business account. What I believe you explained can be done for PayPal Personal account only. I have tried it before and it does work if you pass through MCB.

However, it seems to be different if you have a business account. The money is put on hold since you can't confirm your identity. PayPal tells you the only way to confirm your identity is by "Linking a bank" which is not possible in Mauritius.

Do you have a PayPal business account? And does it work for you? Or were you talking about a personal account?

I never tried sending from a Mauritian Paypal Account to another. If you want to you can send 50 cents or something to me and I will let you know!
