Sent money to wifes number that was connected to a different account

My wifes current number never received a deposit because that number is somehow connected to a different email. even though my wifes email and number combo was never used in paypal. Paypal wont return the funds. What do i do

Welcome to the community! I'm sorry to hear that the funds were sent to a different account. 

If the payment is unclaimed, the funds should be returned after 30 days. If the payment was claimed, it means that there is either another person who used the number at some point in the past (possibly before it was issued to your wife?), or your wife has an old account that has since been forgotten.

If your wife can call customer service and give them the phone number, they can look up the account. If the information matches and your wife is able to validate it, a representative will be able to help further.
