If you have a bank account and/or card on your PayPal account, the Security System may have determined that none of your current payment methods (balance, bank or card) is eligible to use for the purchase you want to make. The System reviews all transactions and takes steps to help PayPal manage the risks involved in operating as a worldwide Money Services Business and protect all customers' information and transactions.

I had something similar. My PP account shows my checking account as the preferred payment option with my debit card as the the secondary but when I try to complete a purchase the only funding sources available are my wife's checking account (which I have now deleted) and PP Credit. Now when I try to make a PP purchase it asks that I must enter a credit/debit card.

Hello @Mayo7

Welcome to the PayPal Community! I'm sorry to hear you've run into some speed-bumps making a purchase. Have you double-checked which email address you're trying to check out with? If you go to check out and your browser has saved info in it's cache and history, you may be looking at your wife's account instead of yours. I'd recommend clearing your browser's cache, cookies, and history and then attempt your checkout. If that doesn't fix it, you're always welcome to reach out to our Customer Support teams for further assistance.

Good luck!

It was definitely my email address but I have come to the conclusion that it isn’t a PP issue, it’s the vendor’s website. PP works fine on other websites but when I try to purchase on Ethos Car Care and Paramount Plus using PP it asks me to add my credit or debit card information. What’s strange is that my debit card and checking account information is on the PP website and my checking account is the preferred method. So when I enter my debit card number it simply will not accept it but if I enter my credit card number it not only accepts it but adds it to PP as a funding option. Cannot get answers from the websites. And here’s another twist, I have purchased from Ethos Car Care in the past using PP and my checking account would show up as a preferred method. Now it doesn’t

@Mayo7, thanks for that additional info, I'd be happy to weigh in on that. When you only have a bank on file, you may need to add a debit or credit card on file as a backup funding source. Your first couple payments may go through without a hitch, but normally you may need a debit / credit card on file to fund a transaction with your bank and routing number.

In regard to adding your debit card, I would recommend trying to add your debit card directly through your PayPal account if you're trying to add it through a checkout experience. If you're still running into issues after that, or have questions about any other PayPal issue, you're welcome to reach out to our Support Teams with the info in the article listed above.

Best wishes!

I think you misunderstood. My debit card and my checking account are my two funding sources on my PP account and anytime I use PP to purchase an item on a vendor website those two funding options, besides PP Credit should ALWAYS show up as options to purchase but for some unexplained reason, on the Ethos Car Care and Paramount Plus website they did not show up. I still don’t know why?

One more thing, I called PP Support three different times and they could not explain what was going on
