transaction cancelled but my money was taken

Hello

I was given an email address to make a payment to a friend but the email address was wrong. My friend let me know shortly afterwarsd that they had mystyped their email address. I logged int Paypal and saw that my payment was still pending so I cancelled it. It showed as cancelled in my account. There was also a refund transacion showing. 

I thought all was ok but when I checked this morning the money had been taken from my bank account.

I've searched through the help section but couldn't find anything relevant.

Do I assume that my refund will appear overnight?

Any help is much appreciated.

You’ll have to give it time for the money to be returned to you. Bank transactions are slow to process and is automated. If the payment is canceled soon after sending, it does not cancel the transfer at the bank, it still comes out and once PayPal gets the money, it routes the payment back, since you canceled, to your bank account. Give about 3-5 days each way.

Was my money taken even if it says "Money In"? See attached. Does that mean my money is in Paypal? And I can send it to a seller? I can't seem to "change" method of payment. I need to pay via my Paypal money if the money is IN my paypal versus card. TIA!

Welcome back to the Community! The section you've referenced displays the money you've received (normally in the last 7 days), not necessarily your current balance. You can view your current balance on your Account Summary under the section labeled "PayPal balance".
