Add a description of this payment

I give cash to my husband via his paypal account. I just tried and I get "Add a description of this payment." and it won't let me continue until I put something there. I've never seen it before is this new? And why do I need to tell them anything? That seems unnecessary and frankly it's none of their business.

Welcome! I'm sorry to hear your payment attempt isn't going as smoothly as you had expected. If one of the required fields to send a payment is to add a Descripting for what the money is for, unfortunately there's not an option around that. While the description is there as a future reminder for the sender / receiver, it also helps PayPal battle any known fraud trends and / or comply with local and federal regulations when applicable.
