Cannot use PayPal to checkout on eBay

Hello,

I have an item in my Ebay cart, and I would like to pay using PayPal.

When I click on the checkout with PayPal button, I'm prompted to log in to PayPal. Once logged in, I receive an error message:

So, I get stuck on a loop. I do see that there are pre-authorization charges on my card, which are refunded fine.

I received a call from PayPal support, but they could not help because the system is blocking the transaction for 'security reasons.'

Shouldn't I be getting an email or other notification prompting me to allow the payment?

 

I've tried the mobile app, and used different browsers, too. Cleared cookies and cache. Nothing seems to help.

 

Does anyone know what I should do? The seller is patient with me, but now I will look like a jerk, as he has been waiting for a couple of days now. I don't want to cancel the order.

 

I'm using a China UnionPay card (which is not supported by Ebay).

That's the only payment method I have. No other card. I can't link my bank account with PayPal as that's not available in my country.

 

Any help is appreciated. Thank you in advance.

You need to add a visa credit card to your paypal account and confirm it with the 4 digit code as per link.

Has to be a physical card as paypal rarely accept online / digital cards.

Also the cards billing address has to match your paypal account address.

The UnionPay card is a physical card. I have made purchases with it before using PayPal checkout on another site.

I have even confirmed the card.

I don't have access to the other cards, just this one.

I had this same problem today when using MS Edge. Switched to Chrome to purchase and had no issues there. I can only assume the problem is linked to the web browser being used.
