I found that I had to activate Visa+ on both PayPal and Venmo to use it. Then I use the Venmo Payname in PayPal, and the PayPal Payname in Venmo. This had to happen on my phone apps though, I couldn't make it happen on the computer. (maybe because the apps updated faster than the website?)

I have the same problem. I did try setting up the much-vaunted "Visa+Payname" on Paypal with no success; can't find anything in Wallet or in Payments about sending money to Venmo. However, I was able to set it up in Venmo fairly easily! But that didn't help; when I tried to send money to Venmo from PP, PP didn't "recognize the (visa+username) name." This bears out what brendanvan said about needing to do the Visa+ thing on both. But if I can't do it on PP?
BTW, I'm on hold with PP as we speak, and, after 2 different customer service agents, neither of whom have even heard of Visa+payname, and one of whom thought she would know if I tried to send money to Venmo and failed (as described above) so actually had the gall to all but accuse me of lying(!), am waiting for a supervisor. I'm trying to run a business, a micro-business, but a business all the same, and this is our most successful year to date. Who has time for this?
Besides which...it's a sunny day, here in L.A., and I'm not sure I want to spend another minute dealing with the (apparently) inept and uninformed people answering the phone at PayPal... 😎

You would think a company owned by the same entity would want to make it easier to transfer to itself instead of transferring out and losing the interest you know they are making on our money in holding.... this is so ridiculous for those of us trying to run a business and need to concentrate on the business instead of the headache & frustration of trying to do the mundane and then having to take hours troubleshooting THEIR apps.
