How to use paypal balance for online payments on 3rd party websites such as patreon

I have a lot of balance available on my paypal. And I have already selected paypal balance as my preferred for online payments. 

Yet, whenever I try to make an online payment at a 3rd party website (such as Patreon.com), paypal pops up and only allows me to pay through a debit/credit card.

Why is it not letting me pay through my paypal balance?

I understand that you would like to use your PayPal balance to make payments. Unfortunately, in some countries, the option to use PayPal balance may not be available. If you do not see the options that means your country is not eligible to make payment using PayPal balance. Hence, you can only use your funding sources that are listed or shown at the time of checkout.

somebody paid me money ,I would like to pay it towards my balance how do I do that? do I just leave it there?

I am happy to help you with your inquiry about making payments using your balance. When someone sends you money, it will be available in your PayPal balance. You can keep the funds in your balance to make payments to your friends/family or to shop online. You can also transfer your balance to your linked bank account or card. 

You will be able to choose your balance as a payment method at the time of check out. For U.S account holders, to use PayPal balance as a payment method, you need to have a PayPal Balance account. More information about PayPal Balance account can be seen here.
