I had someone send me a payment but we both received an email from PayPal saying they needed to also send $1000 to increase my account to a business account to accept and now I have to refund it back and show proof but no funds are showing in my account so how can I refund something that's not there?

Hi @SammJ, @Snowie882, and @vionette,
Thank you for your posts and welcome to the PayPal Community Forum! I'm sorry to hear that you all received fraudulent emails. To learn how to differentiate a fake email from a real one, please take a look at this article. It's a US article but the information applies regardless of the country in which you live.
There's also the possibility that a fraudster could send you an invoice with false information in the description. PayPal is working on cracking down on these as they are found, but if you ever receive one, disregard it and don't click to pay the invoice and don't call the number in the description.
I hope this information helps prevent any confusion that would result in further loss.

I had a PayPal email invoice saying £534 would be deducted from my account as it was accessed illegally and it needs payment..and I need to ring them right away.. First thing I noticed the name on the invoice was ANNI [removed]..I did a scroll shot of the email and sent it to PayPal agent after doing a search of transactions with activity page and checking with the PayPal message bot..hope noone else is getting these..please DON'T PAY ANYTHING OR RING until you have spoken to PayPal..it even says at the bottom of the email to contact them if still not sure as PayPal would never as you to ring them on an invoice or txt them..
