I’m an American in Brazil right now and I wanted to buy a small amount of cryptocurrency. They want to verify the transaction with a text message. When I enter a different phone number it says this type of phone number isn’t supported even though the app lets you select the country and country code Very strange

When traveling, a login from a different country than where your PayPal account is registered can appear like an attempt by a third party to take over your account. Due to this, PayPal heavily limits and often prevents use of an account while traveling. You also can't add another countries phone number to your country specific paypal account.
