Welcome to the PayPal Community! This is a great question, I would certainly be concerned as well if my routing number was updated while awaiting my tax return. After a bit of research, I found the following information in this article:
"For existing Direct Deposit customers who may have had their routing number updated, know that you don’t need to do a thing for Direct Deposit payments you previously set up, including an IRS refund. We automatically update it for you and will continue to monitor any deposits to make sure funds are available to you in your PayPal Balance account."
