Why can't I transfer US funds from my PayPal account directly to a US bank account

I reside in Canada and do a fair amount of business in the US and get paid in US Funds which go directly to my US funds Paypal account. Why can't I transfer the funds to my US bank account directly rather than converting them to Canadian dollars first at an artificially low conversion rate and the converting them back to US dollars at my bank

You can add a US or Canadian bank account to a Canadian PayPal account.

I added a US$ bank account to PayPal but when I tried to transfer US funds to my bank the option was not available and took me instead to my Canadian account and converted the US$ to Can$

Did you confirm the U.S bank after adding it and was it a U.S physical bank and not a digital / virtual account or USD currency account?
