Markus Persson, creator of Minecraft, has funds wrongly frozen by Paypal

Markus Persson, the creator of the popular sandbox game Minecraft (http://www.minecraft.net) has had over 600,000 Euro in funds frozen by Paypal on the basis of "supsicious withdrawl or deposit".

Mr. Persson's product is NOT FRAUD in any way!  Myself and countless others have supported Mr. Persson in his endeavors by purchasing his product through Paypal (please see the web community http://www.minecraftforum.net).  The freezing of his funds is an atrocity.  Mr. Persson is an independant game programmer and provides a legitimate product and unparalleled support for the folks who have purchased his game.

An excerpt from his blog:

“And.. Paypal. On the 25’th, they limited my account for unspecified reasons (a suspicious withdrawal or deposit! wow, thank you for that amazingly detailed information), and asked me for a bunch of vague documents. I did my best to give them what they asked for.

"My account is still limited. I’ve called them three times, they keep telling me it’s being reviewed. Most recently they told me it’d take up to two more weeks for it to get resolved, and that if they decide something bad’s being going on, they’re going to keep the money.

"There’s over 600000 euro in there. Money I was planning on investing in the new company.”

There is an entire community of people who support Mr. Persson and his work, including notable gaming companies like Valve Software.  Please help us support him by petitioning Paypal to unlock his funds.  Please repost this in your community blogs so we can get the word out and help an independent developer succeed!!!

Notch is actually pretty opinion about his statistics, and it seems the account was locked due to there being a larger volume of purchases than usual - caused by a surge of interest in the game (it was posted in many popular places like Valve's TF2 blog and some popular YouTube channel).

I don't know the whole story, but maybe he could have used Auto-Sweep function so he's have access to some of the funds. This is an unfortunate situation, and I hope PayPal releases the funds asap if there's no wrongdoing. Freezing 600K Euros will probably lead to a lot of angry customers.

Unfortunatly is just not Markus is doing this to.  They freeze EVERYONE'S accounts.  This has been going of for a long time.   Posting will unfortunatly NOT budge paypal.  You will need to take them to court.  They have already been suid for this and have settled out of court.  There are 2 open Class Action Law suits currently open now.  If you scan the boards you will find them, I can't remember where there posted on here.  But one of them are looking for people to join there suit.  So may be worth your while to check it out.

Excuse me surplus!  They've been doing this everyday for "no" reason.  Are you trying to tell me that all the ebay users including me has given them a "powerful reason" for doing this to us?

**bleep** NO, and Paypal finely admitted to me that I did nothing wrong to deserve this!!!!   So keep your "bull **bleep**" to yourself!

For you new guys that don't know, Surplus protects and defends Paypal on every illegal thing they do!  He's in their buddy system!

And MARKUS, if you complain enough Paypal "might" send you a Paypal Pen set for being such a "great customer" like they did for me?

Ya, we're are such great customers for allowing Paypal to make interest off our $1,000's of funds! 

And surplus, your math means nothing when you compare it to how many individuals (millions) and companies they are doing this too.   And you don't even have to do the math for that to know Paypal is getting rich on everyones held funds!

That's a totally different issue and they don't freeze accounts, they hold a percentage of them for security deposits, just like any other merchant account provider does.

At least get your facts straight.

you arent the only one i had my account frozen and the bank account was removed from verify now they wont let me use the bank account to verify again and keepgiving lies and bull about it first they told me the bank account was ok to use to verify but it still says it isnt then they toold me they would send money to my account to verify they never did all they did was lie to me and keep my money the thing is there was no reason to do this all i was doing was sending money from my bank account to paypal to pay someone they deided to just do it
