Paypal just notified me that I have spent $10,000 on paypal so now they want to "verify me" through access to my bank account.. I don't understand. So, I have spent alot of money and paid for it all, not owing anybody anything and now they need my bank account info. to Verify Me??? Shouldn't they have done that at $10 not $10,000? And if I don't want to give them my bank info. I am required to get their credit card? It seems to me that if I have spent $10,000 without a problem that I already proved myself a reliable buyer! And that's not the whole of it. Once I give them my info., that becomes my default payment unless I go in and manually change it every transaction. I feel like I am being punished for using them so often. I don't want my bank account to be my default payment. I want my same credit card that I have been using for a long time to continue to be my default payment. Does anyone know what's up with this???

This is a Homeland Security issue - paypal is making sure that they have verified your identity to make sure you aen't laundering funds or sending funds to terrorists. People tend to use false identities when that happens.
Welcome to the grim future.

Easy and safe solution: Go to your local credit union and open an account with $5.00. Use that account for PayPal verification. No one will get access to your "real" accounts.

Horsepucky, paypal wants access to your banking information and or wants to sell you a credit card. Having such information could no more prevent terrorist activities than Tom Ridge's suggestion to have some duct tape on hand to save guard you from a biological attack.

I can see if you spent 10,000 in one purchase, or 10,000 in one week, or 10,000 in one month, but please 10,000 in 'ten years! I would have to be the world's worst money launderer. No wonder my wife wont let me do the wash. This is just an information grab by either the government or paypal. Am I being paronoid, or this what big brother is all about? I liked ebay, such a shame.

I could not agree more this is really a stupid business practice if it is not changed PDQ I will cease to use E BAY and paypal altogether I know my 10, 000 doesn't amount to much in the scheme of things so Paypal likely does not care.
I believe this practice is nothing less than a dishonest attempt to force a credit card on it's customers. I make it a practice to avoid doing business with folks who use strong arm tactics. I certainly will not trust my personal banking information to folks who attempt to use such unsavory business practices.
